SpartyMSU's BigTen BBall Rankings: Dec. 7, 2009
Last week’s summary
Michigan State: Concern has crept in….. They have had 3 chances to beat North Carolina in less than 12 months and weren’t competitive… .. I really thought they would play better than that. They have been beaten by a good Florida team and again by NC. Sure we beat Wofford, but, we’re supposed to beat Wofford. With a game against the new #2 Texas coming up.. Izzo has to be prepared, and the guys have to lessen turnovers and hit the free throws.
This week: At the Citadel, and home against Oakland university..
PS: SpartyMSU will be at the Oakland game.. their Coach Greg Kampe is in his 26th season at Oakland with a 420-316 record. He is a good man, great coach. His program is my #2 in the entire State of Michigan.. Great program there.
Purdue: These guys are a surprise. I did not think they’d come out of the gates so fast. Chris Kramer and E'Twaun Moore have been more than impressive. Add into the soup junior forward Robbie Hummel, and even the Spartans are going to have trouble with them. They beat a good Wake Forest team, and are Tops in the Big Ten..
Next up: Valpo and at Alabama…
Wisconsin: Beat the Grambling Tigers and Beat Duke 73 – 69. But, I don’t like these guys, rumors of them playing dirty… and a coach they looks like Eddie Munster.. Good team, will do well, don’t like’em.
Next up: Green Bay, and a tough inter-state game against a very good Marquette team.
Ohio State: Sweet win against Florida.. 77 – 64.. Hope Evan Turner isn’t hurt and is out of the Hospital. He smashed himself on a dunk attempt and was taken quickly to hospital for back X-Rays..
Next Game against Butler on the 12th
Illinois: Shocker win against # 18 Clemson.. They were down 22 points with 16 minutes remaining and went on a 28-4 run.. IMPRESSIVE!
Next Up: Vandy and Western Michigan.
Minnesota: Killed Brown, 55 – 91.. Lost to Miami in a close one, 58 – 63. Beat a good Butler team earlier… Tubby has them going in the right direction..
Next: Morgan State and St. Josephs.
Northwestern: Beat NC State. Only loss was against a good Butler team..
Next up: NC A&T, and North Florida..
Penn State: Beat Virginia, and lost to Temple…
Next Up: V. Tech.. this will be a good game… after a practice with the Maryland – Baltimore CC Squad.
Michigan: Can you believe these guys were once rated in the Top 25… not me… they have 2 tough games coming up: At Utah, and against University of Detroit.. Manny Harris is their game.. and Perry shoot a good 3.. Predict middle of the pack for them in the Big Ten…
Soon have a game against the Kansas J-Hawks.. will be a good test…
Indiana: The Big Ten needs Indiana to get good… Coach Tom Crean is probably one of the next great coaches in the Big Ten.. But, he needs to get the Hoosiers on a winning track. He inherited a mess, but will turn the program around. No impressive wins. And spanked by Maryland. Look out for what comes next…
Next up: Pittsburg and Kentucky…
Iowa.. Poor Iowa, unlike their Football team, they will suck this year.. Losses to bad teams.. losses against good teams..
Next up: Northern Iowa and Iowa State…

Nice analysis SpartyMSU. I think that they just played terrible in the first half against UNC, but did a good job of getting back in the game. Very glad to see that. Would have been nice to see them can a few of them at the end...concerning that a few players passed up shots when it counted at the end. Izzo indicated he addressed that. No worries about the rankings right now - the potential is there, and Izzo will get them to peak at tournament time.

Your right the potential is there, but they seem to play down to the competition, when we all know they can put most teams away if they’re focused.. They could put teams out of the game early and wish them all a good night…
But, they don’t. They come from behind, and win. They do not stand up and punch someone in the face and then keep on going. That’s whats frustrating.
And now Spartans go to Texas in a couple weeks.. then we start the Big Ten season with Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin,.. They have to get a handle on this now. If they can do that, less injuries, higher scores, higher seed in tourney, etc.
They can, don’t know why they don’t..
