Some thoughts about the Year.....

This is Matthew Horn, and my First posting on SpartyMSU.. more postings to come on Spartan Sports and other topics: NHL, NBA, NFL, MSU..and more MSU...
But for now.. some thoughts on the year...
There might not be a player in college football that will be more difficult to replace than Michigan State's Javon Ringer.
Ringer was responsible for a huge share of the Spartans' rushing offense and his production will be sorely missed. Six or seven backs are in the mix to fill roles in the backfield this season.
Another position to be sorted out is quarterback, where Kirk Cousins and Keith Nichol are competing for the starting job.
Nichol gave Sam Bradford a run for the starting job at Oklahoma and Bradford won the Heisman last year. Maybe Nichol can be the next Jevan Snead.

Snead and Colt McCoy fought for the quarterback role at Texas after Vince Young left before Snead transferred to Mississippi. Snead and the Rebels are ranked in the preseason top 10 of most polls right now.

MSU's Greg Jones leaves very little to question, unless it's an opponent wondering where he is after a hit. Jones might very well be the best linebacker in the Big Ten, and that includes Penn State's Navorro Bowman.
Give us your opinions on the players matchups and season...
Sparty On !!

Hi Matt,
Welcome to the MSU football blogosphere-o-rama.
I don't fully agree with your comment on Ringer. I know, I know, but hear me out. Ringer ran for over 1600 yards, 4th in the country. The three runners who were ahead of him went to UConn, Ball State, and Iowa. Those teams ranked 13th, 31st and 26th, respectively, in rushing offense as a team. Meanwhile, MSU was waaaay down the list at 78th. Why? One dimensional offense. Which tells me two things. One, it reinforces the fact that Ringer was a beast carrying the offense. Second, if we were able to win 9 games while every defense from here to Kabul knew we were running the football, I have to think we can be at least as effective with a balanced attack.
